Building PlayStation a brand new e-sports platform

Creating a digital tournament destination for 100 million gamers in over 80 countries.

PlayStation wanted to develop a platform to engage esports activity for their 100 million monthly active users. We built an all-new digital experience that streamlines competitive play with easily discoverable tournaments, seamless on-console sign-up, and real-time match updates to address common barriers in online competitive play.

Our product and technology teams worked in tandem for 4-weeks in a discovery phase to generate a foundation for the MVP and roadmap for future development, including time spent with Sony’s technology teams to understand the nuance of existing environments and integration points to provide a detailed recommendation for a more modern technical architecture. The discovery also focused on business objectives, user expectations, the PlayStation ecosystem, and e-sports industry trends. We used a series of collaborative sessions to define the requirements, map user journeys, and identify practical solutions and opportunities to innovate. All of which led to our innovative competitive platform that made PlayStation a dominant force in the esports arena.
